Some possible health benefits of Ginseng include:

  • Aiding in Cognitive Function

  • Anti-Inflammatory

The (Other) Benefit of Pumice that You Never Knew About!

10-July-2017

You may have heard of pumice stone, with its abilities to soften rough skin and assist in amazing pedicures, but did you know… a different mixture of pumice has many oral benefits as well!

Keeping teeth clean is incredibly important, and plaque can result in tooth decay and possibly gingivitis. Brushing your teeth is a good start, and flossing is even better, but the American Dental Association also recommends that you have a professional tooth cleaning at least once or twice a year.

Your dentist or dental hygienist can clean more deeply than any tooth-cleaning product that you can use at home… with the use of a pumice mixture!

The texture of pumice makes it ideal for polishing smooth surfaces.

When your teeth are polished with pumice – which is often mixed with a flavoring agent – it removes the plaque and bacteria and smooths the surface of your teeth.

When teeth are polished with a combination of acid and pumice, the difference in appearance is visible. Polishing with pumice can also remove stains from eating, drinking, or even smoking.

How to Make Cleaning Chemicals Last Longer

16-June-2017

Whether you buy your cleaning chemicals from chemical distributors in New York, or other industrial chemical suppliers, most cleansers slowly lose their power over time.

Bleach, for example, is at its best from three to six months. Good storage techniques help both cleaning products and your equipment last longer. Some tips include wrapping soap-filled scouring pads in foil to prevent rusting. Soap can last longer by keeping it in dishes with drainage holes, rather than placing it in a small pool of water on the sink.

Cleaning chemicals should be stored in a cool, dry cupboard. Open packets of dry cleansers, such as baking soda, should be sealed in order to avoid clumping. Adding a few grains of salt to an outdoor broom stiffens its bristles while cleaning. Setting aside a cupboard entirely for cleaning is ideal, as the chemicals won’t attack other products, such as food. Inside the cupboard, hooks and simple shelving are useful in keeping everything off the floor. If you have children within the house, choose a cupboard up high to store the chemicals and fit a bolt on the door. These are designed to resist opening but cannot keep out a determined child. Remember to clean out the storage cupboard regularly. Always leave the door open while cleaning, as the air can become harmful.

Independent Chemical Corporation cares about our clients and their safety. For more tips on how to store chemicals or stay safe, visit our website and click on ‘Contact Us’. We are happy to offer our advice and knowledge on chemicals and how to store them properly.

Chemical Food Preservatives and Their Roles

16-June-2017

What is Food Preservation?

Food preservation is defined as the process of treating and handling food to stop or slow down food spoilage, thus allow for longer food storage. It allows for the food to be eaten at later times, reducing costs in purchasing new food and allowing consumers to save money while eating at less of a risk. Benzoates, Nitrites, Sulfites. We see them so often in the ingredients of our favorite foods.

Why Use Food Preservatives?

The primary reason for using preservatives is to make food safer by eliminating the influence of biological factors. Without the food being preserved, it could become spoiled or become toxic from the bacteria, yeasts, or molds present within it. Some of these bacteria can release toxins that can pose potentially fatal threats to human health.

In order to avoid the effects of the bacteria and mold within food, anti-microbial substances are used which inhibit, delay or prevent the growth of these organisms. Sulfur compounds such as the sulfites mentioned before are used to stop the growth of bacteria. These are most commonly present in wine, dried fruits, and some shellfish. Sorbic acid, which is a naturally occurring compound that's become the most commonly used food preservative in the world, is highly effective at inhibiting the growth of mold. It can be used for many different purposes, including the preservation of potato products, cheese and jam.

The nitrate and nitrite compounds are used as additives in meat products such as ham by slowing or stopping the growth of bacteria as the meat is curing, specifically botulism.

Benzoic acid is commonly used within antibacterials and antifungals in foods such as pickled cucumbers, low sugar jams and jellies, dressings, condiments.

Lactic Acid: The Skin Superstar You Never Knew About!

16-June-2017

Lactic acid is one of many cosmetic ingredients, derived from (sour) milk, and is known for its skin softening abilities. It works as a form of alpha hydroxy acid, and is sometimes added to facial skin care peels, which are designed to be applied to your skin and left on for a certain amount of time, before being washed off. These offer great benefits for your skin's overall health. Lactic acid peels exfoliate your skin's surface and help improve skin cell turnover rates. These peels may eventually help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Lactic acid works by breaking down the 'glue' between skin cells, causing them to slough off and reveal the newer, shinier, healthier skin underneath. The many benefits of lactic acid include:

  • Reducing fine lines

  • Improving skin tone and texture

  • Fading pigmentation, acne scars and evening out the color of your skin

  • Controlling and preventing oiliness and breakouts

Lactic acid works on the surface of your skin and is gentler than other alpha hydroxy acids. It is better for dry skin, those searching for skin softening benefits, and can be used on sensitive skins, with caution. It is effective in gently lightening skin, including pigmentation patches, pimple/acne scars, or uneven skin tones. It is great for dry skin and is more gentle than glycolic acid. Finally, it’s is beneficial for body skin and can control body acne. Independent Chemical Corporation, is a proud cosmetic ingredients supplier in New York and, to purchase Lactic Acid, you can do so here.

The Benefits of Argan Oil

16-June-2017

Argan oil has been proven to have amazing effects on skin, hair, nails, and more. The New York Times called argan oil “liquid gold,” with proven benefits and an amazing smell. The oil created from the kernels of the nuts of the argan tree.

Argan oil can be applied directly to the skin, hair, or nails, but it can also be ingested through gel pills. It is rich in Vitamin A and E, and filled with antioxidants.  Research shows that when applied to skin, it eases inflammation while moisturizing the skin.  Vitamin E helps to boost cell production while promoting healthy skin and hair. Cosmetic companies include it in their high-end anti-aging, hair, and skin care products.

The oil can be used as a skin toner, moisturizer, exfoliator, and acne reducer. It can also prevent stretch marks and razor bumps. Apart from skin, the oil can help with hair growth and acts as an amazing leave in-conditioner due to its non-greasy qualities. If you have dry, brittle hair, an overnight deep conditioning treatment with argan oil can re-moisturize the damaged hair strands and promote its health.

Storing argan oil is easy! Keep the oil out of direct sunlight, and sealed tight. It is recommended to use the oil within 6 months of opening for optimal benefit.
