Ammonium benzoate (CAS 1863-63-4) is the ammonium salt of benzoic acid. Also known as benzoic acid ammonium salt, it is a coarse white powder that is widely used for its antimicrobial properties in cosmetics, personal care, and various other types of consumer products.
In skin care and cosmetics, ammonium benzoate functions a preservative ingredient. It also functions as a preservative in paper wrappers, rubber latex and certain adhesives, and it serves as an agent for reducing curing time in the vulcanization of rubber. Other consumer applications include cleaning and furnishing care products, paints and coatings, and water treatment products. Ammonium benzoate is used in industrial applications as a corrosion inhibitor and anti-scaling agent. In the coatings industry, ammonium benzoate acts as a flash rust inhibitor for ferrous substrates, and it is used in the electronics industry in the production of electrolytic capacitors.
