The Krameria Plant: A Natural Healing Remedy from the Andes Mountains
The Krameria plant, also known as Rhatany, is a flowering shrub native to the Americas that can be found in dry high elevation habitats, most notably in Peru along the western slopes of the Andes but ranging from Chile to the North American Rocky Mountains. There are 18 individual sub species of the plant, all with similar characteristics. The shrub is characterized by narrow, silky green leaves, red flowers and shallow roots that spread out to tap the water supply of neighboring plants in a parasitic fashion. Krameria shrubs typically reach about 3 ft in height. The low branches are covered in silky down when they are young and become woody and knotted with age, while the root has wrinkled reddish brown smooth bark and a brown woody core.
Krameria roots have been used as a traditional herbal remedy in South America, where the plants are harvested commercially from the wild. The roots are sold in local markets and exported to international markets for medicinal use. Cultivation has been attempted but has not met with much success. Krameria roots contain high concentrations of tannins, which can help to reduce skin inflammation.
Vevy Europe’s ACS-AntiCytoStressor (CAS 84775-95-1), also known as Fraction of Kramiera Triandra Root Extract, is extracted from the root of the Krameria triandra Ruiz et Pavon plant. This product is water soluble and functions as an astringent and an anti-inflammatory agent. In the case of skin injuries, the injured epidermis produces stress hormones. Elevated levels of stress hormones can cause the skin to flush, itch, burn, and have a general sensitivity. ACS-Anticytostressor can effectively reduce the level of stress hormones produced by the skin under environmental stress. This helps to soothe the skin from itching and redness caused by pollution and sun damage. In the long run, ACS-Anticytostressor can also prevent capillary fragility and slow down premature aging.
